Doubting Doubts: Do you have doubts?

As fallen humans, we are biased against God. We claim that we are looking at the evidence objectively for and against God. Instead, we have our foot on the scale. Our doubt grows against God because we fail to see the ever-mounting clues that continue to demonstrate not only God’s existence but also God’s work in our lives. -Pastor Dave

Sermon Follow-Up Study

Open: Have you ever doubted the existence of God? What were the circumstances and how did  you deal with the questions?

 Read: Romans 1-2; Psalm 19; 2 Peter 3:5

 Discuss:

 1. How have you seen the rise in doubt concerning the existence of God in the past decade? How is this translating to the group called the “Nones” (those not affiliated with any belief system)? In what ways have people challenged your belief in God?

2. What do you think of the following statement, “God doesn’t need proven but discovered…you won’t find God with a telescope, you find God when your eyes and hearts are opened to Him”? Does this statement indicate blind faith? Why or why not?

3. What clues does Paul give us in Romans 1 and 2 about the existence of God? Of the clues mentioned, which stand out to you the most? What key indicators do we have for the existence of God? Role-play with someone pretending to challenge your view of God’s existence.

4. How should the reality of God’s existence change our perspective of life and motivate us as Christians? How would your life change if there wasn’t a God? What plan do you have in place to further your understanding of the existence of God?
